  • Jessica Jones

A brand new Netflix Original, Jessica Jones follows the story of the protagonist of the Marvel comic series AliasJessica Jones takes a break from the padded jumpsuits, secret identities, and saving the world to focus on a single private eye trying to deal with her past. Jessica may have super strength but it hasn’t kept her from the category of “damaged goods”. David Tennant of Doctor Who fame is Kilgrave, a man with serious mind control abilities. Too bad he’s a complete psychopath with no regard for anyone other than himself and his obsession with Jessica. This show hits hard and deals fairly directly with themes such as abuse, morality, use of power, and rape. Jessica Jones screams in your face and means every word it says.

  • MLP: Season 5

Five seasons strong My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic proves that a cartoon for little girls can still pull its weight. Season 5 had a lot to beat after Seasons 4’s epic, Dragon Ball Z-esque finale. Including the serie’s hundredth episode, MLP balances perfectly its appeal to adults and children with constant nods to older fans, light hearted humor, relatable characters and a strong emphasis on lessons that teach the value of true friendship. Many of you may have avoided this show up until now but take my advice here. Watch one episode and you might be hooked.

  • Fear the Walking Dead

As long as you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few years you know what The Walking Dead is. Cult comic book series turned prime-time television series about a zombie infested world and the people struggling to survive in it. There’s a recent spin off series you may not have heard of. Fear the Walking Dead shows us the beginning of the zombie outbreak, and gives us an all new cast of characters and setting to explore. The one thing that differentiates FTWD from TWD is that every character feels like a main character, and does away with the attachments that fans have already made to certain characters (*cough* Darryl *cough*). Hopefully, Fear the Walking Dead will gain nearly as much popularity as its older sister series.

  • Shokugeki no Souma

What? You didn’t think you’d get through this without at least one anime thrown in somewhere, did you? If you like literal foodgasms, then this is the anime for you. Shougeki no Souma can only be described as ridiculous to a fault at times, but I still can’t help but laugh. Who would have thought a show about the struggles of culinary students would drum up laughter? You’ll understand when you watch your first few episodes, as people taste one of the main character’s dishes and literally explode into food induced orgasms.

  • No Game No Life

That’s right. TWO anime. DEAL WITH IT. Out of the two on this list, I have to admit that No Game No Life is my favorite. Humor, wit, major fantasy global conflict being flipped on it’s head by a lazy, brother-sister duo of gamers? This anime has it all. Trapped in a world where all conflicts are resolved by games that must follow ten specific rules, the two main characters routinely put extremely powerful creatures and even entire nations in their place all in the quest to beat this world’s god.  If you enjoy games even a little bit this is worth a watch.
